Hello Geotab,

I understand that disconnecting the battery in a vehicle will allow a GO Unit to reset to factory default parameters. How long does the battery need to be disconnected to cause this? Also will a battery disconnect switch as found on most heavy equipment invoke a reset?

Thanks in advance,

Hello,

It is not possible to 'reset to factory defaults' as the parameters are managed in the checkmate application. In order to changing logging parameters in a GO device, a parameter key must be created in checkmate and then inserted into the GO device.

Please provide more information about the issue you are experiencing.

If you require phone support, please visit the contacts page on www.geotab.com and submit your contact details. Please include the company which the system was purchased from so that we can include your dealer in the troubleshooting process.

Hello Tony,

What I have experienced is logging parameters changing on vehicles and I have not reprogrammed them. I have also experienced resetting GO Units by disconnecting a battery. If a battery power disconnect does not reset any parameters in a GPS what can? Also what does a GPS reset do if it does not reset parameters to factory defaults?

Thanks in advance

Hello,
You can view logging paramters directly in checkmate by clicking Vehicles & Devices --> Devices & Vehicles, and editing the device. When you make changes to these parameters, the checkmate application will automatically upload parameters via air (RF or Live) after every ignition off. Which specific parameter is changing? We may require a remote session to review the parameters in checkmate to validate the issue. Please provide more information about the specific parameter in question.

Also, a Power on Reset GPS log is used to notify the user that the unit has lost power.

Hi Tony,

Unfortunately I cannot replicate the problem at this time. It seemed to arise however after a vehicle was in for service by the dealership. I will have to better monitor the situation and keep in touch.

On a somewhat related note. What is the best procedure for "clearing" a GPS unit for transfer to another vehicle? Is this scenario the same for GO 2 and GO 4 devices as well as RF vs non RF devices.

Thanks

Data that is downloaded with a Driver ID and Data extraction key won't be uploaded via RF or cellular. This is the same for GO2 and Go4

To create a Driver ID and Data Key
1) Click Drivers&Activity-->Drivers
2) Click Add Driver
3) Select "Identification and Trip Data Transfer"
4) Enter a description for the key and click assign Key
5) Follow the wizard to create a Driver ID and Data extract key
6) Insert the Driver ID and data key into the unit to download undelivered data.
